Couple dressed for Eid, a flowing printed abaya over a blue set and a light blue polo with shorts

In most homes, the Eid outfit is decided weeks before Eid itself. There is the tradition of wearing something new, the family photos, the visits to grandparents and cousins, and then dinner that goes on late into the night. So good Eid outfits have a lot to do. They need to look special in the morning and still feel comfortable at eleven at night.

Here is how we would dress for it.

What makes a good Eid outfit

Eid outfits for women

The matching set

For a long Eid day, we keep coming back to a matching set. Top and wide trousers in the same colour look complete with almost no effort, they are modest, and you can sit, walk and hug relatives in them without adjusting anything. Ivory or sand in the morning feels fresh. A deeper colour works for the evening.

What to wear under the abaya

If you wear an abaya, what is underneath still counts, because at family homes it often comes off. A soft, polished set keeps you cool under the abaya and looks like a real outfit on its own once you are inside.

Finishing it off

A silk scarf, some gold, a structured bag. Pick one thing to stand out and keep the rest simple.

Eid outfits for men

Many men wear a kandura for prayers and visits. For the rest of the day, or for men who prefer Western clothes, the goal is smart and modest.

Polo and tailored trousers

A good polo with relaxed tailored trousers is smart enough for lunch with the whole family and comfortable enough to wear all day. Warm, neutral colours also look much better in photos than bright ones.

For the evening

Later on, when things get more relaxed, a quality T-shirt with tailored trousers and loafers feels easy and modern.

Picking colours for Eid

Soft ivory and sand for the morning. Olive, espresso and deeper shades for the evening. One idea a lot of families love: choose one colour for everyone and let each person wear it in their own way. The photos look beautiful and nobody feels like they are in a uniform.

Sort it out before the last week of Ramadan

The final days of Ramadan get busy, and the malls get crowded. Choose your outfit early, try it on with the shoes you plan to wear, and hang it up ready. Then Eid morning is calm and the day can be about family.

Eid outfit questions

What should I wear for Eid if I'm visiting a family I don't know well?

Go modest and a little more formal than you think you need. Long sleeves, covered knees and a calm colour are always right in someone else's home.

Is it okay to wear the same outfit for both days of Eid?

Of course. Change one thing, like the scarf, the shoes or the top, and it feels like a new look.

What colours are popular for Eid?

Whites, creams and soft neutrals are classic, especially in the morning. Pastels and deep greens are popular too. There's no rule, just wear what feels like a celebration to you.

However you celebrate, everyone at Barq Vogue wishes you and your family a blessed Eid.
